Cecilia and Jennifer from Ezra Penland had the pleasure of attending the Casualty Actuary Society (CAS) annual meeting, where industry leaders shared their insights on the future of the actuarial profession. The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues, gain new perspectives, and explore the latest trends shaping our field.
CAS Leadership
The CAS welcomed David Cummings as the new President for the 2024-2025 term. Additionally, Barry Franklin was announced as the President-Elect and will serve as President for the 2025-2026 term.
CAS Exam Updates
The CAS has been working closely with Pearson VUE to address the technical issues experienced during the spring exams. They are confident that effective contingency plans are now in place to prevent future disruptions. Enhancing the exam experience is a key focus of the 2025 strategic plan. More information about the exams can be found here.
In an effort to better serve candidates, the CAS is increasing the frequency of exams MAS I, MAS II, 7, 8, and 9. The chart for the 2025/2026 offerings is provided below, with more details available here.
Themes
Artificial Intelligence (AI) was a recurring topic throughout the meeting. It was emphasized that while AI can greatly assist in actuarial work, human actuaries will always be needed to sign off on the work, as people tend to trust human judgment over that of a robot. Additionally, programming skills are increasingly important for new hires, who need to understand how to leverage AI to streamline their tasks.
